Just a very quick update. On Monday it will have been 4 weeks since switch on.
There has been no improvement since day one. The distortion is still there, no clarity can be found anywhere amongst the rasping noise that my brain is interpreting.
I am wearing it every day. Some days I manage only 15 minutes. Other days I manage as much as 2 hours. Longer than that, and I struggle with patience, tiredness and general frustration.
I am starting to lose hope, am I going to be one of the very unlucky ones? I am trying to keep clinging onto it has hard as I can β in the long scheme of things β itβs still very early days right?

It can take a long time. So don’t give up.I’ll be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed. Hugs are sent your way. π
You’re so amazingly honest about these things Bryony. I am no CI user but recently I went to see the audiologist about trying digital hearing aids (I need a back up in case my analogue types decide to call it a day) – and it makes such wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieerd sounds when I play my flute! Arghhhhhhh. The sounds in the high notes get cut off, and when I play vibrato (=gentle wavy effects) it just sounds so square and stiff. When I play a fast chromatic scale the digital aids can’t cope the sounds starts overlapping each other. The audiologist said I need to get used to wearing digitals, and that they are far better than analogues, which really really drives me mad. Here’s me hoping, I’m wearing digital aids for half a day, when I’m practising or flute teaching Im back to wearing analogues!!
xx
aw. I’m sorry things are no better. How disappointing, and how morale sapping.
Four weeks IS early days. Remember the newborn days? Four weeks seemed like a lifetime of sleepless nights, upheaval, love etc, but with the benefit of hindsight it was still only The Beginning, and life eventually (!) settled.
(((hugs)))
I’ve never worn analogue hearing aids. So can’t comment on this part. But I know from when I first started wearing digital hearing aids, that it took me a month to completely feel at home with them, hearing wise. So bear with them. Hopefully you will feel the same too. Gradually increase wearing them over time.
Your poor confused brain is having to unlearn 20+ years of coping with The Way Things Were. 4 weeks to unlearn all of that? That’s a massive task. Baby steps. X
